Case Analysis
Picture This This is a realistic scenario given to make you think. Some ideas and suggestions are given! You are a teacher in a class with 20 students. The first couple days of school you noticed your class seemed to be pretty shy. By the second week of class a few of your students began to talk out while you are speaking. During a lesson there are 2 specific girls in your class who have seemed to become best friends, and they continuously talk during learning time when you are teaching and also during individual class time they are always off task. In the first week of school you established your class expectations, but you do not yet have established classroom rules. What will you do? Will you make the class rules on your own, or allow your students to help you make them? After the class rules and expectations have clearly been laid out for the students they still continue to be off task and talk out. This is when reinforcement comes into play. During this time you will remind the class that there will be no side conversations and saying "Thank you for those students who have your eyes on me and letting me know you are on task and listening." You will continue to reinforce good behavior when it is seen, although there are still a few students who continue to misbehave. What will you do when the students are on task? What will you do to let the students who always behave that their behavior and actions are not going on noticed? What reinforcement techniques will you use in your classroom for good behavior? The off task and misbehaved students will notice the students who are given praise, earn points, or earn rewards. They will realize there is a positive outcome when you behave in a good manner and listen and follow the rules of the classroom. The students will then be able to analyze when they are not doing right and how to correct it in order to receive positive reinforcement. |
